Wastewater Plant Operator

 
Individual performs a variety of technical, semi-skilled, and labor work in the daily operation and maintenance of a municipal sewage treatment plant and collection system.  Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of wastewater, sludge, and effluent.  Monitors and interprets information from the SCADA system and records flows.  Collects and conducts analysis on samples. Performs routine and emergency maintenance on collection system (pump stations, generators, gravity and pressure sewer lines).

Minimum Required Qualifications:

  1. One (1) year experience working at a secondary wastewater treatment facility, and/or equivalent technical experience in the wastewater industry.
  2. Valid Grade I Rhode Island Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate, obtained through examination or reciprocity.
  3. Valid Rhode Island Driver’s License, with no restrictions that would limit or adversely affect insurability.
  4. High school diploma or GED.

Annual Trade Show and Clambake

NWPCA’s annual trade show and clam bake is coming up on Friday, September 9, 2016 returning to the Twelve Acres Banquet House in Smithfield.

This is NWPCA’s premier educational and networking event.  There will be 40+ vendors exhibiting wastewater-related products and services.  This year’s event will again include scholarship presentations, raffles, Ops Challenge Pipe Cutting Competition (prizes awarded), RI DEM Operator Boot Camp graduation and horseshoe tournament.   There is still time to sign up if you are a vendor and interested in showcasing your latest products and services to Rhode Island-based wastewater operations and maintenance professionals.

NWPCA is excited to announce a training opportunity on Tuesday August 16th 8:30 until 11:30 am at the Narragansett Bay Commission Field’s Point Education Room.  This presentation and hands-on training will focus on Basic Microbiology for Activated Sludge processes. WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT CLASS III OPERATOR

Aquarion Company, a leading company in the wastewater and water contract operations industry is seeking a State of Connecticut Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator holding valid Class III license for our New Hartford contract. Duties will include: Providing day-to-day management, oversight, process control and operation of municipal wastewater treatment plant, pump stations and collection network. Facility is a 0.4 mgd sequenching batch reactor with UV disinfection. The successful candidate should have a minimum of 8 years experience including 3 years of supervisory experience in the operation of secondary biological treatment processes. SBR operational experience is a plus. Depending on experience, the hourly range for the Class III Operator is $28 – $34.

WEF Training (webcast)

“Corrosion: Causes and Controls”

Date: 2/10/16 from 1-3pm
Details: Corrosion plagues every wastewater plant facility, equipment, lift station, and pipeline. While corrosion is basically unavoidable, the long term costs and headaches associated with it can be controlled and minimized. This webcast will provide information on the sources or corrosion and mechanisms by which it starts and spreads. Chemical effective at reducing odors compounds (particularly hydrogen sulfide) in the atmosphere at plants will be discussed. The advantages and disadvantages of each will be presented. More aggressive corrosion control through coatings, linings, and timely maintenance or rehabilitation will be the final presentation. Click here for more information.
