There was a great turnout on a gorgeous afternoon at the Scarborough treatment facility in Narragansett for the 1st annual NWPCA Great Chowder Cook Off on August 12th.

MC900215789[1]The Chowder Cook Off was the brain child of NWPCA Executive Board members Peter Eldridge, Tom Ciolfi, and Mike Spring as a way to increase attendance at monthly Board meetings and attract new members.

Competing for bragging rights with their personal clam chowder recipes were NWPCA President Doug Nettleton, and Executive Board members Tom Ciolfi, Scott Goodinson, and Mike Spring.  NWPCA members sampled and rated all the chowders based on color, aroma, consistency, and taste.   Scores were compiled by host Peter Eldridge once everyone had a chance to sample the four very different clam chowders.

Scott Goodinson, Assistant Superintendent in Warwick, took 1st place with his white chowder recipe described by one of the judges as “zippy – yum!”

In addition to making chowder for the event, Tom Ciolfi manned the grill, serving up burgers and hotdogs, as well as numerous delicious side dishes for all in attendance.

It was a truly enjoyable and tasty event.  And the start of a great new NWPCA tradition!!
